Primary’s Cafes are a central hub for the community, providing members with a place to enjoy a break from their day, use for casual meetings, and engage with other members to expand their network. Our cafes include state of the art equipment to create handcrafted beverages by our on-staff Baristas, and members are able to purchase speciality drinks such as espresso, matcha lattes, cortado, Kombucha tea, green juices or healthy snacks such as nuts, yogurts and pastries.
Barista Job Duties:
Welcomes customers, taking, preparing and serving their orders in a timely and friendly manner.
Educates customers by presenting and explaining the drink and snack menu, while answering questions about cafe offerings.
Prepares and sells coffee drinks by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques for coffee drinks, such as drip coffee, espresso drinks and teas.
Generates revenues by attracting new customers; defining new and expanded services and products.
Maintains inventories by replenishing coffee and espresso bean supply; stocking coffee brewing equipment; maintaining supplies, pastries, and snacks for cafe.
Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and sanitation regulations.
Improves quality results by evaluating and redesigning processes, while implementing changes, and maintaining and improving the appearance of the store and cafe.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading coffee, retail trade, and food service publications; maintaining personal networks.
Enhances cafe experience by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Ensure the iPad for the cafe is powered on and running properly.
Restock all supplies such as paper goods, cafe items, milks, and sweeteners that are low. When supplies are received, put them away for storage in their proper location.
On Fridays, complete inventory of all cafe supplies, including paper products, milks, and snacks. Advise Finance of anything that needs to be ordered.
Maintain general cleanliness of the cafe area by spot cleaning tables and counter surfaces and placing dirty glassware and mugs from the sink into the dishwasher.
Clean the brewers, grinders, and espresso machine using equipment directions and equipment cleaner
Prior hospitality or customer service related experience an asset
Super positive attitude and a genuine love for people
Equivalent 2 - 4 years of experience in food service, including but not limited to: cafes, coffee shops, or restaurants
New York City Food Protection Certification a plus
Familiarity with technology including Apple iPad and Square Point of Sale Terminal
Good problem solving ability
Great communication skills
Meticulous attention to detail
Punctual and polished in appearance and demeanor
Ability to attend weekly team meetings
Open to learning new ways to do things and considering others’ perspectives
Ability to work weekdays, and occasionally evenings for events
