3 Alternatives for Tackling That 3 PM Sugar-Craving Slump

New Yorkers have long days - they do their 5-9 before their 9-5, then go on to their second 5-9. However, none of us are immune to that midday feeling when we feel exhausted, will reach for caffeine or sweets to catch a second wind, and just want to take a nap.

While PRIMARY coworking does have a nap room that gets booked up daily, there are other options to take advantage of that don’t involve sleeping, reaching for sweets, or getting a caffeine jolt.

Here are three of our favorites:

Walk it out.

Staring at a screen all day and sitting can have a negative impact on the mind and body. Around 80% of people in the US have a desk job where they spend most of their time sitting. That’s not including the commute each way. One way to combat that 3 PM feeling is to take a walk. 10-15 minutes around the block can help you reenergize and get the blood flowing. Fresh air and a change of scenery can do wonders for the mind.

Dance it out.

Contrary to popular belief, the arts industry is still going strong. Music creates connections, evokes emotions, and can have a positive effect on your workday. Pop on your favorite playlist and move your body for a better mood, reduced anxiety, improved memory, and less fatigue.

Snack it out.

Sugary treats can increase exhaustion, spike your blood sugar, and make that midday feeling appear worse than it is. Instead, opt for a snack that’s flavorful, and satisfying, yet boasts nutritional properties that nourish the body and mine. Choose a treat that’s high in protein that can give you the energy and mood boost you’re seeking.

And when in doubt, take advantage of the health and wellness opportunities that PRIMARY has to offer. Whether that’s buying a healthy snack from the café, booking the nap room for a 30-min refresher, taking a fitness class/using the Peloton room, or simply taking a break from the day at one of the many lounge areas.
