Member Spotlight: Amy Green Design

When Lisa Skye co-founded PRIMARY in 2016, her attention to detail was immaculate. So it’s no surprise the space attracted some of the best architecture and interior design firms in the city.

Today, we’re talking to Amy Green, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, the namesake of Amy Green Design. She focuses on thoughtful design solutions that are both functional and sustainable. She’s been a speaker at SustainableNY and BuildingsNY, and has volunteered with NY Cares, Kids Enjoying Exercise Now, and Habitat for Humanity.

Hailing from Laguna Beach, CA, and Portland, OR, Green has created a wonderful space for herself here in NYC.

Without further ado, let’s learn more about Amy and Amy Green Design.

First and foremost, tell us a little more about yourself and how Amy Green Design came about.

Amy Green Design is an architecture & interior design firm helping clients design a better tomorrow through the design of their space to help them experience their best lives in it --- every day moving forward.

I was NYC’s LEED & Green Development Coordinator prior to starting my own firm, and have been featured in Vanity Fair & Luxe magazine along with working on Michelin Star restaurants --- yeah I love food, too.
What services does Amy Green Design provide?

We work on both residential & commercial projects as well as renovations and new ground up buildings. Taking on everything from as small as a bathroom renovation to as large as a new skyscraper.

When and where was it founded?

Amy Green Design began on the West coast, but dreams of being an architect in the Big Apple brought me to New York City where I fell in love with the city and all the incredible architecture, history, people, and culture in it.

I decided to restart Amy Green Design here in 2017 after building up my local reputation working for boutique firms like Sayigh Duman to large firms like TPG Architecture --- backed by twenty years of experience in the industry.

When you started to transition to office space, what were some of your non-negotiables?

I was doing trial days and tours at coworking spaces across the city and even tried some of the spaces you can pay for by the hour but found a true home when I found PRIMARY.

Space was needed to meet with clients rather than at my dining table, along with a better solution to receiving packages, client samples, storage, and daily printing needs. My dining room is now a dining room again!

What were the key amenities that drew you to the space?

PRIMARY brought me an office for Amy Green Design along with an incredible support staff, beautiful space, and unique amenities like the exercise studio and stocked showers.

How has the location been an asset to your business?

Sometimes to get through a tough design solution you need to just take a walk, get outside in the world, and see things from another perspective. Having Battery Park right there by the office has been phenomenal for those working walks.

What are three things you’re looking forward to for 2023?

I’m a regular attendee at Pregame’s phenomenal New Year Goal Brunch, which encourages you to set a motto for each new year. This year my motto is gratitude.

My team and I are so grateful for our clients who allow us to do the great work we do, grateful for our awesome staff who help support our work, and grateful to PRIMARY for making a great space for us to create our work in.
