PRIMARY’s Guide to FiDi

Located in downtown Manhattan, the Financial District boasts media publishing houses, the New York Stock Exchange, the Freedom Tower, and an ample amount of history. It also has a population of over 10,000 who live there.

26 Broadway has been PRIMARY Coworking’s home for seven years. We’ve spent casual mornings with coffee by the water, lunches in the park, and evenings scouring the area for the best tacos. Because we want you to have the best experience in and out of the office, and we’re not gatekeepers, we’ve put together a FiDi guide so you can discover all that the area has to offer on both weekdays and weekends.

Have additional ideas for us to add? Email Jaci, PRIMARY Community Manager, and let her know what you’d like to see added!

Food

We’re big fans of eating here at PRIMARY and fortunately the Financial District in NYC has a lot to offer.

Tacombi – Create your own taco tasting menu paired with the margaritas of your choice. Or try different types of quesadillas. Don’t forget a side of rice and beans!

“Tacombi makes the best fish tacos” – Monique Johnson, PRIMARY Luminary

Watermark – Dine on the water at Pier 15’s Watermark. Come for the post-work food and beverages, stay for the sunset.

Seamore’s – Head over to the west side to experience Michael Chernow’s latest seafood concept. Follow along on Instagram to learn about special pairing evenings and events!

Dorlan’s Tavern & Oyster Bar – A historic mainstay at South Street Seaport, Dorlan’s is the perfect spot to enjoy your summer Friday. But go early, they fill up fast!

MarkJoseph Steakhouse – Hidden down a quaint cobblestone street, this steakhouse has been in operation for over 20 years. Make a reservation for your next meeting or bring your team to celebrate your latest big win.

Dig – We can’t say enough great things about Dig’s flavorful, healthy, and filling, menu. A solid lunch option to hold you over until dinner.

“One of my favorite lunch spots is Dig. Healthy, vegan options and tons of veggies!” – Rachel Bennett, PRIMARY Operations Director

Don’t forget to caffeinate! Here’s three favorites in walking distance to PRIMARY:

Café Grumpy

Gregory’s Coffee

Blue Bottle Coffee

Activities

You could easily fill up your day in NYC doing activities in the FiDi!

Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island – A symbol of freedom, the Statue of Liberty was designated a national monument in 1924, while Ellis Island was once the busiest immigrant processing station in the US. Book a ferry ticket and spend the day exploring and learning about history.

Federal Hall - It’s where George Washington took oath as the first president in 1789, the building is a memorial and museum to the beginnings of the US. Tours are offered by the National Park Service.

The National Museum of American Indian - A part of the Smithsonian Institute, this exhibit covers the history of over 1,200 American tribes, and boasts over a million artifacts.

Shopping

Many come to NYC to shop on Fifth Avenue though the FiDi boasts its own little shopping hub.

South Street Seaport – You won’t find chain stores down here! Independent, one-of-a-kind stores line the cobblestone street in South Street Seaport. There are clothes, shoes, books, wine, and even a vintage shop.

Brookfield Place – Looking for more high-end shops? Brookfield Place is home to a multitude of designer brands in clothing, athletic wear, and beauty.

The Oculus – The Westfield Shops in The Oculus will remind you more of your younger days of hanging at the mall, except the vibe has been upgraded.

Transportation

Walking around the city is truly the best way to take in all of the sights, sounds…and even smells. However, it does take a lot of stamina and you may want to trade for another mode.

The NYC Ferry – If the hot, stuffy, train isn’t appealing in these warm summer months, consider the NYC Ferry system that can take you to mid and upper Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn.

Staten Island Ferry – If you’re sticking to a budget but still want to be out on the water and sneak a peek at Lady Liberty, the Staten Island Ferry is free99 and operates 24 hours a day, every 15-20 minutes.

Outdoor Space

We think it’s a rule that if you can be outside, you should be outside. While the FiDi isn’t Central Park, there are a few outdoor spots that are worth checking out.

Charging Bull & Fearless Girl – Two prominent statues in the FiDi include the Charging Bull (located right outside 26 Broadway) and Fearless Girl (currently on Broad St.). Together they represent optimism, financial growth, and women’s empowerment.

“During the summer when they have the fountain across from us turned on, I love to sit and have lunch there.” – Monique Johnson

Pier A – Located at the southernmost end of NYC, Pier A is a great spot to start your day with coffee, or take a midday break. Take in the views, sunshine, and fresh air before you get back to crushing those goals.

“I really love sitting along the water by Battery Park.” – Melanie Fedele, PRIMARY Sales Manager
